While some joysticks use resistive or sensor based technology to determine movement, a switching joystick (sometimes referred to as digital, on/off, or switchstick) provides switched on/off outputs only. Each switch is typically positioned such that the joystick shaft will move a few degrees before it actuates a switch. Once a switch closure has engaged, it stays closed until the end of the joystick’s travel.
