In addition to solar power, another alternate energy source is wind power. The output from a wind generator will vary as the wind varies. Two types of converter systems are used to take the variable output and create a stable, usable AC output. The first type uses a gear box, and does not require optocouplers. The second type employs a generator with an AC/DC converter, battery charger and inverter circuit may use IGBT coupler drivers in the inverter circuit to drive the MOSFETs or IGBTs.
