Some materials are easier to drill than others, or may require special tools and bits. If the installer improperly drills a hole into a plastic box, they run the risk of it cracking. Brackets are also harder to install after the fact on a plastic box than on a steel. If a special finish is required, it must be molded into both plastic or fiberglass, whereas it can be added later on the metal enclosures.
