The Microchip ECC508A is a new product that is applicable to IoT security and greatly helps to harden TLS security. The ECC508A in an IoT device can serve as a hardware ID badge that allows the device to mutually authenticate with the cloud service. In addition, the ECC508A performs ECDH or elliptic curve Diffy Helman key agreement for encryption and privacy. The ECC508A also provides hardened secure storage for keys, certificates, and trusted root CA sensitive data. It is hardware protected. It is not merely an EEPROM, but includes hardware countermeasures against tampering and unauthorized access to the data.
