The multi-packet buffering mode is a unique feature of the USB-enabled XMEGA device. This method was invented by Microchip to increase the data throughput and reduce the CPU load. The idea behind multi-packet transfer mode is to use hardware to perform the splits and merges of packets larger than the endpoint maximum packet size. This allows transfer of packets larger than the maximum packet size without CPU intervention, speeding up the transfer and reducing the CPU load.
