Often in North America, power-type cords are referred to as simply power cords or cord sets. The term “power cord” typically refers to a desired length of cord with or without a standardized power plug on one end that connects to the main AC power. If there is a connector on only one end of the cord, the end without the connector, referred to as the open end, can be a blunt cut which enables the customer to remove the outer jacket as far back as needed, or with a portion of the jacket already removed and the inner conductor insulation stripped for easy attachment to terminals. Whereas a cord set refers to a type of power cord with molded connectors at each end. Cord sets are detachable from the main AC power as well as from the device and consist of a flexible cord with electrical connectors at both ends – typically one connector is a plug (male) which connects to the electrical outlet and the other a receptacle (female) that connects to the piece of equipment or an appliance.
