Starting with the real and imaginary components of the input and output impedances, go through the following steps: first, calculate the numerator and the denominator of the equation on the previous slide for both input and output ports (lines 7 and 8 on the spreadsheet shown, note that Excel has functions for complex numbers); then calculate the reflection coefficient (see line 10); calculate the conjugate of the reflection coefficient (shown in line 12); now multiply lines 10 and 12, then subtract the result from one (see line 16); finally, calculate the denominator for the equation on the previous slide, divide one by that number, then convert this to dB to calculate added gain due to matching.
