HD-BNC 50 Ohm Slide 7
Robustness is critical in understanding how reliable the product is when deployed in a real world application. Angle splay (wiggle) is the side to side movement that the connector can display when the plug is stressed by a light side load on the cable. This movement not only gives the perception of a poor connection, but it also can lead to electrical performance variations. These variations may include RF loss, base band intermittence, contact resistance and eye diagrams. In actual applications, this side to side movement can occur with the basic handling of equipment or in dynamic environments such as vehicle based mobile broadcast systems. Typically it is more difficult to achieve a stable interface in a smaller connector, than one of a larger size. Testing was performed using an optical comparator to precisely measure the movement of centerline of the HD-BNC™. The testing showed that the HD-BNC™ displayed comparable movement to the BNC, albeit slightly greater. The 1.0/2.3 showed more significant wiggle.
