The 2.2-5 series uses an open standard and was jointly developed by several manufacturers, and it provides a frequency range of up to 20 Gigahertz (GHz) with 6 GHz being optimal. These connectors use a screw-type coupling mechanism which is easy to install and has a design that protects the contact areas from damage even when not mated. Mobile operators are increasingly requesting stringent PIM requirements to minimize interference, which undermines data, video, and voice performance, and saps network capacity noticeable to customers in the form of dropped calls and slower download speeds. Low PIM enables wireless service providers to build networks capable of higher performance. The 2.2-5 connector uses an air dielectric interface which enables bandwidth and offers excellent low insertion loss. The low PIM is also independent from torque and the coupling mechanism. With the extended temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, this connector series is suitable for applications in both indoor and harsh outdoor environments. They are also rated with an IP68 NEMA rating, which prevents water and dust ingress.
