New Product Discoveries - Monnit's IoT Sensing Kit and TDK InvenSense's Pressure Sensor
The Internet of Things (IoT) is showing no signs of slowing down with predictions of over twenty billion IoT connected devices by the year 2020. We here at DigiKey understand our customer’s need for the latest and greatest IoT related products and components. Our mutual goal is to stay ahead of the IoT market, and in doing so, provide our customers with the ability to produce the most exciting, cutting edge Internet of Things designs.
Today I have two Internet of Things focused products that provide insight on both ends of the development spectrum. The first is a “finished unit” that can be set up in a system as-is and the second item is a board level component easily adaptable to your specific project with an IoT focus.
Monnit Corporation is a supplier with a heavy IoT spotlight. Today we have the second generation of an Internet of Things monitoring solution called the ALTA Wireless IoT Sensors Kit. This kit comes complete with two temperature sensor nodes, a 3G Cellular or Ethernet gateway, software, and accessories (guide, antennas, power supplies, and mounting hardware). A great feature of the ALTA kit is its compatibility with over 50 different types of sensors within the Monnit ecosystem. Connecting the gateway is simple; just plug it in and it will connect to online servers. You can then use the iMonnit software to configure the network, review collected sensor data, and set up alarms. Alarms are able to be sent via SMS or through email. Check out our “Monnit Sensor Kits” blog from Travis Weesner for a deeper, more in depth look at the ATLA Wireless IoT Sensors Kit.
On the flip side, many of our customers take pride in developing from the ground up when their customers require a custom solution. TDK InvenSense has a focus on IoT, specifically in the sensing arena. The ICP-10100 high accuracy barometric pressure sensor has the ability to sense changes in pressure at 5 cm (~2.5 in) increments. To evaluate this product, TDK InvenSense has produced the DK-10100 development platform which includes the ICP-10100 as well as a Microchip MCU for rapid prototyping without the need of additional hardware. Additionally, Scott Raeker goes into more detail in his blog, “TDK InvenSense ICP-10100 Barometric Pressure and Temperature Sensor.”
