Unlike many compact units in the market that achieve size reduction by de-rating for low line input, the ECF40 operates at full power across the full universal input range of 90-264 VAC, making it suitable for true worldwide use at full power. The units will also operate from an input as low as 80 VAC. When comparing power supplies, one area to pay close attention to is the operating temperature. It is easier to claim higher maximum power by de-rating the output power as the ambient temp increases. Many manufacturers specify de-rating from 40°C but the ECF40 operates at full power up to 50°C. Using the 2.5%/°C industry standard de-rating, the ECF40 will provide 25% more power at 50°C than a unit that de-rates from 40°C. All while offering the smallest package available. The ECF40 meets the stringent level B limits for conducted emissions, without additional filter components, making the product easier for the end customer to design into their equipment. The previous 40 W design had a no load input power of less than 0.3 W, this design achieves less than 0.15 W, half the amount. All models are suitable for both class I and class II installations, ideal for applications where a reliable earth connection cannot be guaranteed, and this next generation of power supplies achieves higher conversion efficiency than XP’s previous designs, with efficiencies of up to 93%.
