The 800 W rack-mounted chiller packs four times the cooling capacity of the 200 W chiller in only 6U of rack height, just a 50% increase. Just as in the previous example, the 800 W capacity is for ambient and fluid temperatures of 25°C. This system can provide up to 2 kW of cooling under favorable conditions. The pump capacity is similar to the smaller system, but just as the cooling is increased greatly, so is the heating capacity. While the heating capacities are relatively flat versus circulating fluid temperature for the compressor-based stand-alone systems, these Peltier-based systems show a marked drop-off in heating capacity with increasing fluid temperature. This is due to the fact that the Peltier systems must pump their heat “INTO” the system from the ambient, instead of being provided by electrical heaters. So, the capacity is hindered when the fluid temperature becomes much warmer than the ambient.
