External adapters are available in two basic types: wall and desktop adapters. Sometimes referred to as “wall warts” and “bricks”, respectively. Although the circuitry design can be similar, the physical configuration can be quite different. Some external adapters are country specific, whereas others offer the flexibility to be used worldwide. Wall adapters typically plug directly into the AC power source on a wall or a power strip, whereas the desktop will have a cord that plugs into the power source and is attached to the body of the desktop. From the body, an output cord connects to the load. Having both wall and desktop adapters provide more options when selecting a power source for an application.
