The customer’s maximum allowable input voltage of electronic control units in 48 V powertrain is not yet fixed, and most require their own specifications. The table here shows the clamping voltage and withstand voltage of a conventional TVS versus an XClampR® TVS and conventional TVS combination. For 64 V withstanding voltage condition, the SMC3K64CA has 64 V withstand voltage and a high clamping voltage over 100 V at maximum clamping current. However, the XMC7K24CA and SMC3K40CA conventional TVS combination has lower typical clamping voltage under 85 V at maximum current. The 70 V withstanding voltage application is similar to the 64 V types. The XMC7K24CA and SMC3K45CA conventional TVS combination has a 69 V withstanding voltage, and typical clamping voltage is under 94 V at maximum current. These low clamping voltages will provide devices in circuit as capacitor, MOSFET, and regulator ICs with low voltage types.
