Coupled inductors can be utilized in many power applications. The most common would be as a high current power inductor in a buck or boost converter. Windings can be connected in parallel or series to achieve either a high current handling capacity or a high inductance. Another application is a dual inductor in a single package. DC/DC converter topologies include a single-ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) using a boost controller, a ZETA converter using a buck controller or a buck converter with split rail dual voltage outputs. It can also be used as a coupled inductor in a two-port filter. Finally, it can be used as an auto-transformer where isolation is not required. These applications will be discussed in more detail on the following slides.
