Operating between 120 and 134 kHz means the wavelength of the system is approximately 2.2 kilometers. These long wave transmissions pass easily through most materials except metals with almost no reduction in read range. Although the magnetic field strength falls off quickly, it does have the advantage of creating a well defined homogeneous reading zone. This is particularly important for RFID payment systems. However, LF systems generally use lower data rates than HF and UHF, and do not have the ability to read multiple tags simultaneously.
