From the original work at MIT, the EPC global organisation was formed as a non-profit subsidiary of GS1 (formerly UCC/EAN). It was chartered to develop RFID standards for adoption in the retail supply chain and developed the UHF Gen2 standard. Once the Gen2 Standard was complete, Gen2 tags were produced by a number of manufacturers, including TI. The standard was incorporated into the ISO18000-6 standard as type C which defines worldwide interface protocols for UHF Tags.
