The innovative packaging of the LMZ power modules allows up to 10A of output current in a compact, easy to use package. The single exposed pad with standard IC leads allows the designer to hand solder the module for quick and easy prototyping. The TO-263-like form factor enables manufacturing with standard pick-and-place machinery. The extremely low theta-J-A performance enhances the power density. A further benefit of the modules is the pin-to-pin compatibility of the packages. All modules from 1 to 5A of output current use the TO-PMOD7 package, while all the higher current modules, from 8 to 10A, use the TO-PMOD11 package. By utilizing the same package, the designer can change out one current for another without having to change the board space or layout. When starting a power supply design, it is not always clear what the output current is going to be. With the pin-to-pin compatibility, the designer can start a design for 3A, but if it turns out that 5A is required, the module can be exchanged and the headache of changing the layout can be avoided.
