The PMP3155 reference design is a non-isolated LED driver design. Non-isolated means that the AC mains voltages can be present anywhere on the circuit board and that safeguards must be applied that galvanically isolate the circuit or any connection from any person coming in contact with the light source. In its current form, it accepts an input range of 90 -135VAC, is standard triac wall dimmer compatible, and has above 0.9 Power Factor. This design is mainly comprised of a bridge rectifier, a linear regulator, a dimming control circuit, and the UCC3809 as the main controller configured in an inverted Buck topology. The linear regulator is a source follower and is used to generate the Vdd while the Buck regulator is set for 100kHz operation and provides a 120Hz square wave in phase with the AC line. The Power Factor on this solution is in the range of 0.95 which meets world wide regulatory requirements. This is a potential solution for light bulb replacement as the circuit is small and fairly simple. TI has a paper reference design that available upon request and can also fabricate a working board if a viable opportunity is presented.
