A cable assembly consists of a connector, overmold and wire, which differs from a wire harness in that a cable assembly has multiple wires with an extruded sheathing over it. A wire harness consists of multiple wires mechanically bound together using objects such as cable ties or heat shrink tubing. A cable assembly offers more protection to the wire and also allows over-molding of the connectors. In the following slides this presentation will go into detail about each of the parts of a cable assembly and give users the information needed to specify each one to create a cable assembly that will meet a designer’s needs.
