STLQ015 consumption at zero load (because when supplying to a micro in standby the load is close to zero) is 1 µA as opposed to several tens of µA usually specified for LDOs. This is a suitable device to supply a µC in standby. The trade off for lower power is speed. Low Iq regulators have poor transient response characteristics. When an excellent load transient is highlighted in the list of features, it means the transient response is excellent for a low Iq regulator, not as an absolute. The STLQ015 is designed to achieve a balance between fast transients and low quiescent current. There are competitors’ devices with lower Iq, but the transient response is poor, which is a problem in an application once the micro enters the run mode and the load increases rapidly.
