Using the RNV14 in series with a lighting ballast protects the expensive ballast from overload currents which might damage it. Such overloads may be due to improperly regulated power to the light or lightning during stormy weather. The RNV must withstand fluctuations in voltage without fail but must fail quickly under high current overloads.
