The CP2130 provides customers with many key features which aim to reduce cost, simplify design and shorten development time. Crystal-less USB operation, internal voltage regulator, in-system programmable memory and a small footprint package all reduce PCB area and BOM costs. The CP2130 is able to communicate with a wide range of devices because of the flexible SPI controller, VIO supply flexibility and high throughput. The 11 GPIOs with alternate functions enable communication with up to 11 slave devices and can eliminate external components by integrating more functions into the CP2130. Lastly, using the CP21xx smart interface products do not require any USB expertise and utilize the free Microsoft® WinUSB driver. This makes USB development easy and shortens development time. Target applications can be divided into two sections: legacy designs can be upgraded to USB and new USB designs. For new USB designs, the CP2130 wins because of the crystal-less USB, internal voltage regulator and memory, and small footprint package which enables highly portable solutions. The flexible SPI interface enables communications with a wide range of SPI slaves. Combining that with high throughput makes the CP2130 perfect for USB field update products like a USB dongle that reprograms an end system over the SPI interface. The high throughput also allows the CP2130 to win in data collection systems, where a large amount of measurement data must be rapidly sent up to a USB host. For legacy designs upgrading the USB, designs must have an existing SPI interface. The flexibility of the CP2130 SPI controller allows the CP2130 to communicate with a wide range of SPI slave devices. The small footprint package and integrated USB clock, voltage regulator and in-system programmable memory enables space-constrained legacy designs to utilize USB communications.
