DC bias characteristics are very important in bypass or coupling circuits. As shown here in the top left graph, PMLCAPs have no change in capacitance value over the bias voltage due to the lack of a piezoelectric effect, this gives PMLCAPs a big advantage over MLCCs. Because of a piezoelectric effect, MLCCs are known for high audible noise, which is often a headache in various applications. The bottom right graph indicates an example of an LED backlight circuit for a LCD TV. The noise level of MLCC increases at around 1kHz range and stays high beyond this. Noise at 1 to 10kHz range is very annoying to the average ear, and PMLCAPs provides a much better audio solution.
