Two main features of ROHM’s LDO regulators are shown on this slide. First, for safety ROHM has incorporated integrated short protection, soft start, under voltage lock out (UVLO), output discharge (DIS Charge), thermal shutdown (TSD), and overcurrent protection (OCP) circuitry in a variety of linear regulators. When the current reaches unsafe levels, the foldback current limiting feature is activated, the output voltage is brought to 0V and the current level is reduced. This type of overcurrent protection minimizes the power dissipation, which is crucial in protecting the circuitry. Next is the shutdown function (aka “Enable” or “Inhibit”) which is a logic level control functionality that allows regulators with a shutdown switch to interface with a microcontroller. The connection permits the regulator to be turned on/off remotely and is beneficial in complex multi-channel power management schemes where control of individual rails is necessary.
