Accordingly, various types of charging stations exist. The majority of at-home and small public charging is AC charging, requiring an AC charger wall-box connected to the power grid. These AC chargers only provide low power, and a longer charging time is required. This presentation focuses mainly on DC charging with two types of chargers: DC fast-charge (SAE J1772 DC Level-1) which covers power levels from 20 kW to 150 kW, and DC fast high-power charge (SAE J1772 DC Level-2) that provides levels up to and beyond 350 kW. These DC fast chargers are also known as “Level-3 chargers”, and they are capable of charging an EV in a much shorter time.
