EMI, short for Electro-magnetic Interference, is undesirable interference caused by both magnetic and electric fields. EMI can be transmitted in two different ways. The first way is through conduction, which is over power lines and signal lines. The second way is through radiation, which is electromagnetic waves radiating through space. Without an EMI filter, EMI can decrease equipment performance or even cause equipment malfunction.
