In the past, to use a side firing surface mount transducer, either a no-clean flux had to be used or the part had to be installed by hand on the PCB after the board was run through the reflow and wash processes. The new side firing washable transducer allows the use standard solder pastes and the washing of the PCB without any damage to the audio device with the additional benefit of significant time savings.
