The SDC 2.5 and SDDC 1.5 connectors from Phoenix Contact set a new standard for PCB connection technology. These connectors will connect directly to the circuit board without the need for a header, eliminating a costly component on the board while also eliminating a solder process for the header. This allows SDC 2.5 and SDDC 1.5 products to be mounted on either side of the PCB, or at any location on the PCB. No tools are needed to connect to the PCB, connections are made directly by hand. To ensure a stable mechanical connection to the board, each side of the connector has locking pins that expand with a simple push of the orange locking tabs on both sides of the connector. Because the header is eliminated, the overall height on the PCB is reduced by 40% compared to a typical plug and header combination. The geometry of the SKEDD contact takes the idea of press fit technology to the next level. Each contact is made up of 2 flexible halves that easily adjust to plated-through holes on a PCB. When the contact is inserted into a plated-through hole, the contact has sufficient force to establish a gas-tight connection with no special requirements on the PCB. Wires are easily terminated to the connector with the popular push-in spring connection technology. Solid and stranded wires with a ferrule can be pushed directly into the connector without the need to open the spring clamp. The wires can be easily removed by pushing the orange spring button with a standard screwdriver.
