So, what exactly is SKEDD? SKEDD does not refer directly to the product, but rather to the contact design. By designing the contact with a split beam, it can be plugged directly onto the PCB without the need for a header. Similarly, due to the split beam contact design, the contact can also be easily removed from the PCB. Thus, the SDC 2.5 and SDDC 1.5 series of connectors can be plugged into, or un-plugged from, a PCB without the need for a header, saving a component on the printed circuit board. The geometry of the contact design is very similar to standard press-in technology pins, with the exception that they are removable. Most importantly, when properly mated to a PCB, the contact forms a gas tight connection to the plated through holes on the PCB, eliminating the possibility of corrosion.
