SDC 2.5 and SDDC 1.5 with SKEDD Direct Plug-in Technology Slide 3

As an innovator in connection technology, the Phoenix Contact team wanted to expand their established connector range by offering a product that plugged directly to a printed circuit board. To accomplish this, the team combined four existing product technologies into one product. First, an easy and reliable connection technology was needed for terminating the wires in the connector housing. To accomplish this, Phoenix Contact relied on the proven push-in spring technology. Solid and ferruled wires can simply be pushed into the housing without activating the spring. Stranded wires are also easily inserted into the housing, by first engaging the spring member by pushing the orange button and then inserting the wire. Removal of the wires is as easy as pushing on the orange spring button on top of the part and pulling the wire out of the connector. Second, when considering the design of this product, a pluggable interface was required, meaning, that the plug could be mated and un-mated and not a fixed connection to the PCB. Third, the concept of press in technology was investigated so that the contact members would be somewhat flexible and not rigid. Fourth, and most important, a connection directly to the PCB without the use of a separate plug and header combination was desired. Combining these four product competencies into one part lead to the development of the SKEDD product line. For the first time, this product line will allow customers to purchase a standard product with a direct connection to the PCB.
