PCB Retainer Overview Slide 15
In addition to customized heat frames machined out of a solid piece of aluminum, Schroff also offers an Adjustable Heat Frame which can be used as a prototyping tool when designing custom heat frames. Due to its modular nature, it can be used as a functional heat frame, proving the benefits without the long lead time or expense of a customized solution. The Adjustable Heat Frame is designed to work with the 6U x 160 mm Euroboard form factor for VME or cPCI. The location of the 6061 T6 aluminum thermal bars on a heat frame is board-specific depending on the placement of the electrical components. By removing the wedge-loks from the assembly, the screws that secure the cross bars to the frame can be loosened which will then allow the cross bars to be re-located or even removed to work with most any board design. Once the cross bars has been re-located to the desired position, they should be fixed to the PCB from the underside via the provided fastening points. The cross bars can then be tightened back to the frame, and the wedge-loks re-installed. The frame and cross bars are recessed in the middle for ccPMC or XMC compatibility. On side 2 of the board, is the backing plate. Certain applications may require a customized backing plate, which features openings or different heights in the material to allow for component clearances. Please contact the Schroff San Diego Engineering team for custom requests. The assembly also comes with ejector handles which allow for easy removal from the cold wall, Birtcher 5-piece Wedge Loks, and VITA 1.6 compliant coding keys which provide a method for mechanically keying VME connector slots.
