Electrochemistry offers a broad spectrum for research topics and applications, and all of the applications have different requirements. On the left are applications focusing on quantitative analysis. Air quality, in-vitro diagnostics, food monitoring, and soil and water quality are applications in this field. Many of these applications will be suitable for the PalmSens EmStat Pico potentiostat module. Corrosion is caused by the same principles that electrochemistry is based on, so it is the ideal mean to study corrosion and prevent it. These applications are very diverse; even the amount of current flowing varies. For some applications the EmStat Pico will be suitable and for others it will not. Nowadays energy conversion is a prominent electrochemical discipline as well. This includes batteries, solar cells, and fuel cells. Most of these applications require high voltages and currents; thus, the EmStat Pico is not suitable for most of these applications.
