The company Z&P, short for Zimmer and Peacock, offers screenprinted carbon electrodes. A pack of 200 or more pieces includes access to a collection of online courses including kitchen experiments. One of the experiments is an electrochemical wine tasting. Certain organic substances, which are electrochemically active, are present in significantly higher concentrations in red than white wine. This is clearly visible in standard electrochemical measurements like cyclic voltammetry. The instructions and video demonstration provided make it easy for everyone to perform the experiment at home with the Z&P electrodes and the EmStat Pico, Sensit Smart, or similar potentiostat. All the used substances are non-toxic and can be disposed in the kitchen sink. The electrodes can be thrown into the household garbage.
