This is an example of a MOSFET based overvoltage protection circuit. If the input voltage goes above 5.7V the pass transistor is turned off and cuts off the power. This presentation will look at the trade off of switching time compared to component count. The MOSFET solution has three active devices operating in series and will have a total switching time of 110nS.
