There is an increasing requirement for embedded serial connectivity via USB in industrial and consumer products. Designers are being challenged to develop systems for more functionality at a reduced system cost, therefore a microcontroller with an on-chip USB module is an ideal solution. Additionally, designers must also design for the future -- making applications easily upgradeable to meet future design requirements or technology changes. NXP’s controller continuum is a roadmap for 8 and 32-bit compatible architectures, from the ultra-low-end RS08 and S08 controllers to the full-featured ColdFire devices. The USB controller continuum contains USB MCUs that share tools and peripherals to ease the design process and accelerate time to market.
