Shown here is a network attached storage (NAS) example using the MCF5445x. The PC could be used to connect to the NAS for direct access to the storage or for configuration purposes via USB interface. The MCF5445x supports USB high speed which dramatically speeds up the data transmission rate. The NAS can connect to various USB devices such as mass storage devices or USB tokens as a benefit of USB OTG function. Either of the network interfaces could also be used as a configuration management interface. The MCF5445x can use the serial boot option to execute a boot loader from the SPI flash and boot an OS such as Linux from a dedicated area on one of the hard-disk drives.
