The LPC1800 series features a large number of clocks and timers for design efficiency and flexibility. There is one motor control pulse width modulator (PWM) for three-phase motor control. The motor control PWM is highly configurable for other generalized timing, counting, capture, and compare applications. There are four 32-bit timers, each with eight capture inputs and four compare outputs and some can generate DMA requests for timed memory-to-memory transfers. The ultra-low power real time clock (RTC) is on a separate power domain and has 256 bytes of battery powered backup registers for data retention in deep power down states. Additionally, the alarm timer can also be battery powered. Conceptually, the state configurable timer (SCT) is actually a very simple peripheral: it is a timer onto which NXP has coupled some state/event logic. It is capable of generating waveforms on up to 16 outputs and handling eight different inputs. A developer can design a state machine with up to 32 states and up to 16 events to create their user defined waveforms. A graphical tool is provided to convert the state machine drawing to register settings. A library of examples containing a number of commonly used functions will be provided as a starting point. The SCT is really useful for unloading the processor from real time control tasks.
