This slide shows an electricity meter application example. The block diagram for the smart e-meter shows how the GB610 connects directly to the LCD display and energy measurement units. The dual partition flash allows over-the-air upgrades via Wi-Fi. It can be seen how the new code is loaded into the inactive portion of the Flash memory and, via a Bootswap command, the new code is transferred to the active partition with no interruption to functionality. This enables the upgrade or change of firmware versions without physical access which is important for upgrading an entire fleet of devices from a central node, resulting in a reduction in maintenance cost. Or the user could selectively update modules by sending end user configurations to selected devices once the product is in the field.
