Each XC_ compiler comes complete with one year of high priority access, which includes full software upgrade for new part and new feature support and “front of the queue” support for technical questions or issues with the compilers. Users must register the compilers with Microchip to realize the full benefits of HPA. The HPA expires twelve months from the activation date; the user still gets bug fixes, and new part support (with limited features). There is no cost penalty for not purchasing HPA when it expires; the user can wait until the need arises. However, new feature support and priority technical support are re-activated only when user renews the HPA. A discount coupon for a future tool purchase is provided with the HPA, so the user might even come out ahead.
