The single user license, also called a node-lock license, can be installed on one workstation. A network (or floating) license requires a license management tool to be installed on a license server. Each network license allows one concurrent user on a network, regardless of the number of workstations on the network. For example, in a network environment of ten workstations with two network floating licenses installed, two engineers can use the compiler at the same time, from any workstations in the network, assuming that the software is installed on the workstation. Network installation is flexible for an enterprise with many engineers, multiple projects at the same time, or at different sites. XC Suite is a combination of all compilers. In the node-lock setup, an XC Suite installation will put all XC8, XC16, and XC32 in one workstation, so it is not as flexible as purchasing and installing XC8, XC16 and XC32 individually.
