In summary, Microchip now offers PIC microcontrollers that also integrate glue logic, 555 timers, and/or a data modulator functions with zero code overhead, using the new Configurable Logic Cell. The CLC can be configured with a GUI available on microchip.com, and can be re-configured in the field with user software. Examples of applications of the CLC are synchronous gates, power sequencing, and Manchester encoding. If necessary, a pair of CLCs may be combined to implement more complex logic functions, such as a data modulator. Devices with the CLC modules are supported by MPLAB IDE, Hi-Tech C Compilers and serial programmers/debuggers, the PICDEM Lab and F1 evaluation platform are the recommended development platforms.
