Due to the high resolution of the monitoring circuit, power for each channel can be monitored accurately. The performance of the MAX34417 is dependent on the value of the sense voltage with smaller sense voltages being less accurate. The system can be optimized for power consumption based on the applications requirement. The device is very integrated with four channels so more devices can actually be monitored by one IC. In addition, the device takes up a small amount of board space with a 2 x 2 mm package that has a 0.4 mm pitch. The common mode voltage range is 0.5 to 20 V. Therefore, a variety of rails can be monitored. The device itself only draws 700 µA, with only 2 µA of shut-down current to maximize battery life. It is also a low-cost system because the ability to measure low input sense voltages means that smaller and cheaper resistors can be used, allowing one to measure voltages from µV to 0.1 V of eSense.
