There are seven products in the Himalaya family covering output currents from 100 mA to 3.5 A. They all operate over a 4.5 V to 60 V input voltage range, making them ideal for a broad range of applications, with enough margin for harsh industrial systems. With up to 60 V operating range, the user can eliminate expensive protection circuitry in their system. These parts bring synchronous rectification to high-voltage step-down converters enabling better efficiency and lower cost, without the need for Schottky diodes. To represent its “Peak of Cool” when it comes to heat dissipation, Analog Devices named this family of products Himalaya. While synchronous rectification is well known for use in low-voltage DC-DC converters, it requires specialized design skills and processes to deliver this capability for 60 V V_IN and over 500 mA load current. Analog Devices overcame this challenge to give the benefits of higher efficiency, smaller size, lower system cost, and improved reliability. Target applications are industrial process control, HVAC, base station, battery stacked systems, medical equipment, and power tools.
