The reference design requires a power supply rated for at least 150mA with a suggested nominal voltage of 24V. With the design accelerator kit, a 24V universal power supply is included. The MAX17498B Flyback/Boost converter is ideal for both AC/DC and DC/ DC applications. The 500kHz switching frequency is trimmed to ±8% accuracy which allows for optimization of the magnetic and filter components. An integrated n-channel 65V rated MOSFET with low 175 mΩ RDSON maximizes efficiency and reduces component count. A current-sense resistor is not required, and programmable soft-start, inrush, current limit, and slope compensation provide high stability and reliability. In this design, it is paired with a custom transformer to produce ±24VDC for the positive and negative analog supply voltage of the signal conditioners, and +8VDC for the MAX1659, an LDO, which then feeds a regulated +5V to the digital isolator, voltage reference, DAC, and digital supply of the signal conditioners.
