The physical model of aluminum electrolytic consists of an anode plate and cathode plate mentioned in the last slide. A fine aluminum oxide dielectric layer is created naturally on the cathode plate which is much thinner than anode. The separator paper and electrolytes keep these plates from making physical contact. The thickness of this dielectric determines the voltage rating of the capacitor.
