The Lumissil family of matrix LED drivers provide a dot-by-dot flexibility so the LED array can be partitioned as required for a unique LED ecosystem. This application shows how a customer partitioned the IS31FL3731 array so a portion is dedicated to driving three 14-segment LED displays while the remaining LEDs are used to backlight icons with white and yellow color. With dot-by-dot control, each LED can be individually turned ON/OFF, can be dimmed to an individual brightness level, or programmed with individual patterns. This flexibility is best appreciated when an application requires driving many LEDs at a low system cost and with minimal microcontroller overhead.
