The ISL8002B is a 2 A compact synchronous buck regulator. It can support an input range from 2.7 V to 5.5 V with programmable soft-start. The switching frequency is set at 2 MHz to reduce the solution size, yet still maximizing efficiency of 95%. The mode is selectable between forced PWM or PFM. The PFM feature significantly increases the efficiency at light load. The ISL8002B has over current (OC), short circuit (SC), thermal, and UVLO protections. The programmable soft-start and output tracking and sequencing are two important features of this product. In the ISL8002B, the SS/TR feature allows flexible soft-start configurations. By connecting SS/TR high, the soft-start time is internally set to 2 ms. Additionally, the output tracking and sequencing feature is important to ensure that a sensitive multi-rails system, such as an FPGA, can properly start-up and shut down. The output rails are configurable for coincidental, ratiometric, or sequential designs. In any of these settings, the internal ESD diodes are never biased or overstressed during outputs rising or falling, thus improving reliability.
