Numerous competitors have emerged in recent years in the low voltage sub 10 A power module space. Capitalizing on their own controller technology, differentiation in this space often resides in the packaging technology and, as illustrated before, several trade offs on feature set, size, and output current support need to be made. Renesas' unique full copper lead frame technology guarantees close to full output current capability across the full temperature range while their controller technology offers one of the best feature sets in the industry. Another important aspect of selling this range of power modules is the cross-selling of products. With a wide range of power modules, Renesas typically gets good traction in the >15 A segment where the thermal performance of their packaging technology becomes a critical aspect of the point-of-load design requirements. This incumbent position on the higher current rails should be used to also address the lower current peripheral rails with solutions such as the ISL8202M and ISL8205M.
