There are numerous sensor types for each type of physical measurement. Each can have differing measurement characteristics and requirements. The amplifier requirements will vary depending on the type of measurement being made and the level of impedance of the sensor. For low impedance sensors, typically bipolar amplifiers will be used because they can offer very low voltage noise performance. For high impedance sensors, the current noise of the amplifier becomes more of a factor, so amplifiers with high impedance inputs and very low input bias currents are typically used. For optimal performance, it is important to understand the sensor characteristics and be sure to select the appropriate amplifier.
